Originally conceived and produced by the Centre de Documentation de la Musique Contemporaine (CDMC) in collaboration with the Biennale de la Création Musicale et Chorégraphique de l’Essonne, and with the support of the composer, the Maurice Ohana Exhibition comprises 14 panels.
The exhibition begins with a portrait of the composer by photographer Guy Vivien. Some of the panels then take a thematic approach: ‘Ohana the Man’ (from Casablanca to modern times); ‘Encounters’, most notably his friendships with Ataulfo Argenta, André Gide, Nadia Boulanger and Henri Dutilleux; ‘The Piano’; ‘Other Instruments’ (guitar and harpsichord); ‘Poetry’ (Syllabaire pour Phèdre and Tombeau de Louise Labé).
Other panels focus on various key works that are representative of Ohana’s oeuvre: Llanto por Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, Office des oracles, Trois contes de l’Honorable Fleur, Livre des Prodiges, La Célestine, Le Mariage sous la mer’, Swan-Song, and Avoaha.
The panels include a number of the composer’s drawings and sketches as well as extracts from press articles, reproductions of manuscript scores, correspondence and record sleeves.
The exhibition comes with a musicological catalogue compiled by Christine Prost.
Panel dimensions : 80 x 120 cm
The exhibition can be hired from the MMC, in whole or in part, subject to insurance and transport costs being covered by the client.
